I’ve compiled a few pointers gathered from other great journalists that work well for me, and built an app to reformat story text to thoroughly check facts. It’ll break text into sentences in a spreadsheet. It attempts to flag people and organizations. You can download a spreadsheet on them for extra review and “no surprises” consideration.
Looking at a story differently after reading it many times can help you see it anew. Considering each sentence individually forces you to take care with each one.
Accuracy is the top priority. If the process feels tedious, you’re doing it right.
